August 17-19
We went camping again. This time to Hope Valley RV Park. Sounds all grand when you add the RV to the name but it's not really a grand place. It's nice enough and fun. Lots to do and lots of trees. But it is dusty, dusty, dusty. That's okay, it's part of camping. It was super hot packing up to go and once we were set up we headed to the pool for a nice cool dip in the water! Ahhhhhh! Camping again. Gotta love it! The kids were excited again too. This time we were camping with Jake and Annette and all three kids match up pretty good with their three kids. Jake and Ben are best of friends and will tell you so too. Nicole and Haley are great friends but you can tell that Nicole is older but they have a fabulous time together. Matthew and Shaun have just started to click. Shaun is two years younger than Matthew and it's taken this long for them to hit it off and hit it off they did. They were inseparable too. So that left the adults to relax and catch up.
Our campsite with the Woltjers right beside us. This park had water and power hookups and the power was pretty handy. It was hot so we tried out the trailer air conditioning. Oh that sure felt good as I was preparing dinner!
This picture of Matthew with the goggles on cracks me up. He was allowed to take some money of his own to the park as there is a little store there. I thought for sure it would all have been spent on candy pretty much right away but no, he saw these goggles and that's what it had to be. I told the kids that I had lots of candy with us so if they wanted to get something else with their money they wouldn't be in candy withdrawal or anything. Nicole got the goggles too. Jake did spend it on candy but not only candy. There is a pool table there so he spent quite a bit on pool games with Ben.
I think Matthew never took these things off. He slept with them around his neck and wore them while eating breakfast and dinner! I think he likes them.
I always manage to find some flower to take a picture of and this trip was no exception. I never did think it would be a thistle right beside our campsite. The weeds here were pretty large! Even though it's a weed I think it looks pretty neat!
On Saturday we went for a walk to the Othello tunnels. We had gone a few years ago but it's a fun place to go and it was something to do.
There were so many fun places to climb on the rocks. And climb they did! I'm thinking they walked along the rocks, walls and crevices more than the pathway.
For those of you who don't know, these tunnels were built for the railway. It's amazing what they went through and over! The rushing river way down below was spectacular!
When we looked way down into the river we saw along the rocks salmon. They were making their way up the river. You can see them along the left side of the bottom rock in the picture. If only we could catch one to eat for dinner.
Are you going to pop out in the dark to scare people? I'm sure you are you little pests!
On the walk back we stopped in the river bed for a little dip. The water was super cold but very refreshing on this hot, hot day. The kids don't wait they just jump in but the water was moving so fast. We had to tell them to stay very close to the edge or they would be swept down stream.
Jake was not impressed with the close to the edge rule. He's always got to push the limits and he saw some people jumping from the rocks across the water. He wanted to do it too. They didn't go all the way down the river so why would he. He was still not allowed to go off the rocks! I hope he doesn't remember this place when he can get places on his own!
Nicole is never to be out done by the boys and was in like a dirty shirt.
Jake and Nicole were fine to let me take a picture but Matthew was not impressed. He made an appearance anyway.
On the way back from the tunnels we stopped at Kawkawa Lake for a bit. The kids swam for a little bit but were not too into it. There were signs all over about the duck ticks and goose crap on the beach. We stayed for a bit but then headed back to the campground for a swim in the pool.
Jake and Ben convinced their dads to play a little game of pool with them. The first game was the boys vs the Boys. Yup, Jake and Ben thought it would be fun to play against their dads. That game was over rather quickly so they played a more even game next. It was the Woltjers vs the Spoors. I think the Spoors were in the lead early on in the game but the Woltjers took the win right at the end.
Dave showing them some of his moves. He popped the ball over another ball and got the one he was aiming for into the pocket. You should have heard Jake and Ben when he did that! The were impressed!
He's just getting old but still has that cute little face he's always had!
And that's it. Our last camping trip of the summer. That means that summer is almost over and we are really going to miss it around here! Oh, I don't want to go back to school! I just want to keep on camping!
