Art/Science Open House

Instead of having a Grandparent's Day this year we had an Art/Science Open House at school. The kids were really quite excited about this. They were all working on projects at school whether it be art or science. Once at school the kids had to demonstrate their projects to the other classes and parents as they dropped in to each of the classrooms.

Matthew had to make a ramp at home. I thought this would be a great father/son activity and it was. They worked hard one rainy Saturday and this is the final project...a ramp complete with hills and tunnels! Great job Dave, oops and Matthew!

Nicole's class had a variety of science experiment stations going at the same time. Nicole had to chart where people caught the ruler as she dropped it. We had to catch the ruler with just one finger and thumb! Very tricky! Then in the afternoon they had to construct a boat from foil and see how many pennies it could hold while in water. Good thing Dad came along to help her make her boat good and strong!

Jake had a pantomime project to work on. As he read his story some other students in his class had to act it out. Interesting. They also made instruments from craft items in the classroom. Jake made an xylophone with a box and popsicle sticks. He explained very well, how it worked. The more sticks you have stuck together the lower the sound it made. They also made a treasure map and we had to follow his instructions. That's what Dave is doing writing on the bulletin board. Now, what's with the glasses you ask? Jake made these at school one day and has been wearing them everyday since. He wouldn't let me take a picture of him wearing them at home but was happy to do so at school with some friends!

Even I got into the action of some of the science activities in Grade 7. It may look like I have some good form going but the pine cone pretty much dropped at my feet... not a good shot at all!
