Pumpkin Carving 2009 - October 27, 2009
We never made it to the pumpkin patch this year...at least not with our family...so we went to Ralph's Farm Market instead. Ralph's is where we shop to get our fruits and veggies every week but this year they also had a pumpkin patch. This is where Matthew went with his Gr 1 class. The field was far too muddy so I didn't take the kids to the patch, much to their dismay. We had Rubin over today so he got to pick one too. Jake always needs to pick a heavy one but this year it also had to be tall and stand up nice. Nicole was very indecisive too but managed to find the 'perfect' one. Matthew had already gotten his in the muddy patch and Rubin picked the first one he saw. That was easy.
Then it was back home to carve them. I was surprised at how much Rubin did. He loved digging the stuff out and even got pretty much all of it.
Matthew had a hard time drawing the face and opted for Mom to do that. It HAD to have square eyes. Then he did the scooping and even tried to cut the face out. That was too hard so I got to do that too.
Nicole was very insistent that she could do it all herself. She did a fine job but needed a bit of help with the cutting. She had a hard time with the mouth but did the rest herself.

Looks a little scary with the knives there Jac! You should pick up some real pumpkin carving knives...they work much better! I am not sure if they are any safer...
