Sports Day - June 11, 2010

Finally we could have Sports Day. We've been having a bit of a rainy spring, to say the least, and had to postpone Sports Day twice. There was great disappointment both times and a lot of doubt that we would even be able to have the day this year. The weather was looking quite threatening on the night before but we were going ahead anyway! It turned out to be a very gray day, with a bit of a downpour at one time but ended off with a bright sunny sky! It was a great day, filled with fun and even some ribbons.

Jake is officially an intermediate student this year and got to do some fun sporting events like High Jump and Shot Put for the first time. He takes Sports Day very seriously and has been practising for weeks at school and at home. He did very well, placing in the top 5 in most of the individual events. He was a bit disappointed with his finish in High Jump as he was always first or second in practice but he didn't manage to get there on the day but that's okay he knew he had tried his best and he didn't let it dampen his spirt. He was on the red team, the Red Smarties!

Nicole was also really looking forward to this day. She started the day off with the short distance run where she got a first place ribbon. Little muscular Nicolie tied for fastest girl in the class. That was a sweet victory for her as she never places first in the long distance run...there she's the second or third. She too placed in the top 5 in her individual events and she sure was excited about that! Nicole was on the green team, the Green Gumdrops.

Matthew could hardly wait for this day to come. He is a bit competitive too. He also did very well in all his individual events, almost placing in everyone of them. He's got some fierce competition in his class so he really needs to work hard to get to the top. He was so proud to soar into first in the long jump....tiny little Matthew, one of the smallest in the class, jumps a solid first! He's got some bounce! Maybe it's all that Tigger costume wearing he's done in the past few years. Matthew was on the blue team, the Blue Lollipops.
