The camping season has arrived!
We are excited to be going camping again. It's the May long weekend! This year we are going with a small group. We decided that we were done with a huge group and chose a different location from the main group. Our kids agreed that less is best so I think this is the way it will be for us again next year. Our sites were in a different section of Deception Pass than we have ever camped in, it was called Quarry Pond. It was a smaller loop and we had 6 nice large sites right near each other. There was power and water on each of the sites and we were right across from the washrooms. The weather was mixed, some rain and some sun but the company was great and that's really all that matters!
The kids slept in tents even. Nicole and Rebekah shared a tent...called The Igloo. Our tent had a broken zipper but the girls wanted to sleep in it anyway. Then it started to rain so we threw a big white tarp over it and it looked like an igloo. It was cold in the tents but they stayed in there all the nights but the last one.
Jake and Josh also slept in a tent but on the Allison's site. They were cold too and stayed all the nights in there but the last one as well.
Nicole's birthday is in May but we gave her gift to her now instead. She really needed a new bike and with the help of Verne, Dave found a perfect one on Craig's List. Dave had told her he was looking for one but that he hadn't found one yet...big lie! He had one but didn't want her to know until we got the campground.
The bike, complete with a bow!
Dave telling Nicole that he couldn't find a bike in time for camping and that he forgot his bike for her too. What a pest!
He walked her right past the bike but she didn't notice as she was upset he had forgotten a bike for her. The May long weekend is a weekend of biking usually and she was sad to be missing out.
It's really dark but she is VERY happy on this picture. I think she wanted to smack her dad though!
Nicole and Esther.
I can't remember what they were eating to make their tongues so green.
The Quarry Pond
This is the pond where the kids spent a good majority of their time. There was lots to discover and explore. Of course their favourite place at the pond was on the rock cliff across the way.
Believe it or not, no one fell in!
Man tracker was another hit!
Matthew wasn't feeling well this weekend so he was often found just hanging around our site doing something quiet instead of off and running with the crowd. This time we found him playing a little play dough with Brooklyn....so cute.
There was a lot of game playing too.
Matthew off and about with his bike.
We went to the beach one day. Jake had set up some hurdles.
I think he should join the track team next year!
The bridge....and the flowers for the weekend.
The girls were crazy....they went into the cold, cold water....and had fun yet too!
Rebekah and Nicole were a little more crazy than Esther but she eventually went in too.
Dave, no goatee? What? You shaved it off? He was the talk of the day with his baby face!
Jake started a game of throw rocks at a rock on a stick. Who could get the rock off first was the goal. Hey, it fills the time.
Look out! Rocks in the air!
And then Jordyn caught a fish.
....and she wanted to eat it but Marnie did not want to clean it for her so Dave did!
He had quite the audience...
....then she had to find a cook so I did that for her...
...and then she had to eat it, which she did! It was yummy!
Yup, Dave took me along too....
Just to cook?
Matthew really likes to chop wood. He puts his whole body into it.
The mob of kids we took with us!
Hannah, Josh, Rebekah, Esther Allison
Jenae, Justine, Tyson, Krista Lof
Dawson, Mackenzie Sikma
Zebedee, Alexis VanSpronsen
Jordyn, Brooklyn, Dylan VanEgmond
Jake, Nicole, Matthew Spoor
More Man tracker hiding places.
Three little monkeys hanging out in the back of the truck!
That's the end of another successful camping trip.....can't wait to go camping again this summer!
