May Long Weekend
Bay View State Park
May 15-19, 2014

Our first camping trip of 2014!  We went to Bay View State Park which is between Anacortes and Burlington, Washington, USA.  A couple of years ago we went to this park, enjoyed it and thought it would be a great May long weekend destination....so that's where we went this year.
There were 4 families this year .... The VanSpronsens, VanEgmonds, Sikmas and us, the Spoors.  It was a nice little group with only 10 children!  The kids had a fabulous time, combing the beach, playing games, biking and exploring.  We played lots of games with and without the kids but most of all it was a super relaxing weekend!  The weather was AMAZING!  Sunny and super warm the entire time.  The best weather of all the 8 May long weekends that we have been camping!  Bay View has a section of the park with a huge grass field surrounded by campsites.  It was in that area that we got our sites.  A couple of weeks before we went camping we discovered that Brian & Wendi (Dave's brother) were camping with a few friends at Bay View as well.  They were in the site right next to us.

We found a little jumpy friend in Rob & Marnie's first up.
Kubb....a very fun game of stick throwing.  We had a few games of this throughout our time at the campground. The grass field was perfect for all sorts of lawn games....Kubb, Ladder Golf, Baseball and Soccer.
Hmmmm......new version of Kubb?  Don't hit the post with the drink!

Either Dave's being a pain in the butt or Jake and Dave won!
Dave flirting with Brooklyn or Brooklyn flirting with Dave?  Could be either or!

Combing the beach for fun and interesting creatures.  Hours of fun!

Oh, looks like they found something interesting....besides a stink load of mud!
Yup, in Dawson's shoe there is a fish.

It was an interesting creature ....interesting enough to draw on a crowd!
Not sure what kind of fish it is, something like a dogfish?  It had sharp teeth.

Time to clean up....there was no coming back to the campground with stinky mud all over!

A bee! on a flower.
Jake found this cool shell.  It was huge.  We kept it so we can shellac it and use it as a serving dish.
Off to the showers you go....stinky, muddy kids!
Ranger Rob....telling stories around the campfire!
Lots and lots of card games!
Elizabeth came for some coloured sprinkles on white bread! I babysat Elizabeth when she was just over a year 3 days a week.  She grew to love coloured sprinkles on bread at our house so now whenever I get the chance she comes for a special treat from Auntie Jac!  Wendi did not grow up eating candy on bread! like us crazy Dutch people.
Twins!  When I babysat and went out I often got comments about these cute little twins!

The kids found this interesting butterfly.
We went to the Interpretive Center. It's a neat little 'aquarium' like place where you can learn about the sea creatures in the waters of Padilla Bay. Very interesting.

That's the mouth of a sea urchin!
Donuts!  Yummy homemade camping donuts!
And that's it....our trip to Bay View State Park is now over!  Till next time....August long weekend with the Spoor family!
