There is never, ever a year that we are allowed to skip pumpkin carving. Jake will NOT let us miss it. He LOVES this little tradition we started a long time ago. I don't remember the first time we did this but he treasures this time and even if we do it just before trick-or-treating or much earlier we HAVE to do it! The kids have graduated from the tooth smile of the traditional jack-o-lantern to researching on Pinterest for the most unique ideas they can find. They've graduated from me drawing the picture and cutting it all out while they watch to me hardly getting to participate at all. I almost have to get pumpkins for Dave and I now too so that we can do some of the carving!
It might be a stupid Halloween thing but we've made it our own fun little family time of fun!....well, and a bit of a mess too. No injuries this year! We don't have as many of those either, umm....well unless I start getting a pumpkin for me, that might start happening again!
The whole process begins with cutting the tops out, then we move on to the gutting stage. After all the seeds and slime has been deposited into a large bowl and garburated...no we don't roast the seeds...the drawing and cutting begins!
We have Nicole so things never ever are normal! She's a bit of a prankster and well.....I guess not always a lady!
I got to help Nicole with some of the drawing.
She had a pretty intricate design this year so it was a bit of a trial for her. She wasn't always happy and smiley during the carving process. Some parts fell off and we had to use toothpicks to put them back on but she was happy with the final result!
Not sure what's more goofy....Nicole or her Jack-o-lantern!
Jake has come a LOOOOONG way. No help needed and as precise as he always is.
Always has a clear plan and sets off to accomplish that plan!
Matthew still likes to have some help. Dave got to help him this year!
Dave always finds a reason to use some tools on the pumpkins and Matthew is always happy to use them!
What a cute pumpkin!
The mess on the floor is getting to be less and less too! And....they all help me clean it up now too!
