Xa:ytem Interpretive Centre - Mission, BC - February 25, 2010

Jake's been studying the First Nations of Canada in Socials at school. He has been very interested in this topic. Lots of interesting facts to soak in. They finished off their unit with 2 field trips, one to Xa:ytem and one to Fort Langley. Lucky me, I got to go on both as they were both afternoon trips.
The class.

Our leader was quite talented. He was carving this totem pole. The kids were in awe of it and his talent. Lots of questions.

After seeing the totem pole we were taken into a pit house. Very cool too. We learned a lot on this field trip, it was quite interesting.

After the tour of the pit house we were taken back into the long house to do some First Nations crafts. Making a bracelet out of tree bark...

....weaving and carving out a canoe. So cool.
