Deception Pass - June 17-19, 2011
We took a quick weekend away with Rob and Marnie. We started doing this 3 years ago when we realized that we had camping booked at least once a month starting in May until September except for June. We didn't want to leave June out so we booked a quick weekend away mid June. Now we do this every year. It seems like an awful lot of work for just 2 days but we find that once you are at the campground it's a world away from home and so very, very relaxing. It's a good time of the year for me to have a relaxing weekend as the end of school comes very fast and the last few weeks are always super busy for some reason.
This year we chose Deception Pass as the destination. We love that park. There is so much for the kids to keep busy doing. Lots of adventuring to be had. The kids also love that park. They love the beach and the rocks they can climb. We had 2 sites right close to the beach and the climbing rocks this year.
When we arrived on the Friday evening it wasn't super warm out so the kids had a little music fest in our trailer. We plugged Nicole's mp3 player into the trailer stereo and they danced and sang the evening away!

The next morning started late, of course...we do like to sleep in! Marnie had some fun balloons for the kids to play with. They would soar through the air making a funny squeaking noise. The kids had a hard time blowing them up at first but once they got the hang of it they kept busy for a long time!
Whenever we go camping in June it's someones birthday. The first year it was Nicole's, last year it was Dave and Marnie's and this year it was Dave's.

Marnie had made some oh so yummy and cute little cupcakes!

Brooklyn really liked the icing!

The ocean is such a fun place to camp at. There is so very much to do, to see and to explore.

Jake and Jordyn are our big adventure seekers. Nicole would have been right in there with them but the water was making her all itchy this year. Jake and Jordyn spent a very long time in the water. How? I don't know because this water was super cold. The big splashes were fun to dodge.....or not to dodge!

Jordyn and Jake are forever finding interesting things. They are never scared to pick them up and examine them closely. They really are so much fun to watch and they can keep each other occupied for hours! This time it was a jelly fish.

This is for Hendrik.......a tie on a Spoor!

Marnie and Matthew can keep busy for a long time too. They have a special relationship. I don't know how it started but Marnie is Matthew's favourite and I think it will always be that way! Look out Rob!

........and then we found the blow hole back! Last year we found this blow hole while on a day trip from Pioneer Trails on the May long weekend. It was hours of entertainment this year.

I was sitting on the rocks near this one so I could get the right angle of the kids getting soaked by the blow hole when WHAM! a huge wave hit the rock splashed me wet! Not only did that get me wet but the same wave then went through the rocks and up out of the blow hole to get me all over again. Dave stood in the distance laughing so hard and wishing that he had the camera! I was so wet! The problem was that I had only packed one pair of pants, to try not to over pack, and now I had no more pants to wear. Just capris and that would not get me through the night. The nights were cold! I had to wear Dave's pants but since they were so short on me I might as well have just worn my capris!

Trying to dry off by the fire. We gave up and went for some nice hot showers!

That's it! Our quick little weekend away is over. The weather wasn't very good but that wasn't a big deal. We had so much fun anyway.
