Sports Day - June 3, 2011
We had Sports Day. We had to cancel it once due to rainy weather but it's a good thing we did because we ended up with a most fabulous warm day. I am on the organizing team for Sports Days so it was good to have it done and over with. There is so much to do to get the day up and running but sure worth the effort. Sports Day was always my favourite day in elementary school and I think it still is my favourite. It's so fun to watch the kids enjoying themselves. They are all so competitive...not sure where they get that from? - and they have a super fun day!
We'll start with Jake....
He was on the red team this year, the Red Cyclones. Their team was 1st at the end of the day.
His favourite event was long jump but he says he didn't do good. He was 4th and was sad that his best jump was not counted because his toe was over. A little competitive, ummm yes, very! He was happy with his 4th place finish in high jump and was surprised at how well he did in the long distance run!
Nicole was on the yellow team the Yellow Lightning. Their team was 3rd at the end of the day.
She says that long jump was her favourite event. She came first of the girls. The long distance run was hard because she had a hard time breathing. She sets a very high standard for herself in that event and expects herself to do much better than she did. She also really liked high jump and came 3rd for that event.
Matthew was on the blue team, the Blue Hurricanes. His team was 2nd by the end of the day.
His favourite events were long jump and the long run. Tug of war was hard because they lost. Matthew really surprised us this year. He has never been the best in the long run and he just ran and ran and ran. He looked like the energizer bunny with the amount of energy he had for that second last event of the day. He must have springs in his legs as he flew so far over the long jump pit too!
