Rob and Marnie convinced us to leave for our next camping trip early. When they mean early they mean early. They suggested 6:00AM which Dave and I somehow agreed to do. What we found out later was that Rob and Marnie said 6:00 but counted on 6:30 knowing full well that we wouldn't be ready by then. Ha! We were ready! Before 6:30.......not much but a bit. We stopped in Manning Park for breakfast and were at the campsite by 1:00! The best thing about leaving so early was that we were all set up and relaxing by 2:00! It felt like we had the whole day ahead of us! We had great sites. Each site had a tree and was just steps from the water. A perfect set up for a relaxing week! I imagined lots of reading time while the kids played in the warm water. That's pretty much how it happened too!
It didn't take long for the girls to suit up and head for the water. It was fun in the water for the kids. They could walk for what seemed like forever and still not be in water over their heads. Nicole and Jordyn were out there for a long time.
This water was perfect for Matthew. He felt safe all the time and spent lots of time out on the tube or Bogey board.
Even Dave got some reading done!

Frogs! And lots of them. It's a good thing we had a bug bucket and a rule that the bucket with the animals was to remain outside of the trailer! The kids found the frogs pretty much right away upon our arrival to the sites. They had 4 in the bucket at one point but only 2 of them had to endure Jordyn and Nicole's lovin'. They played with those poor frogs all day. They even took them for rides on the tube in the water.
Jake was sometimes at a loss for what to do as Jordyn was occupied by Nicole and the frogs. He took on the role of big brother for both Dylan and Brooklyn.

Oh yeah, holidays are good!
We had a lot of wind during our stay in Osoyoos. It was unusually windy for a few days in a row. Perfect for flying kites....now, if only we had a good kite that would go up into the air. Matthew and I tried for a long time to get this thing up in the air but we never did succeed. I guess we really couldn't expect much more for a $2 kite.
We played a lot of games.........and so did the kids!
Brooklyn likes boys..........especially Matthew. I think Matthew likes Brooklyn too!
Rob encouraged Jake, in one of his bored times, to catch a duck. If he caught the duck Rob would pay him $5. You only need to mention money to Jake once to catch his attention and keep it! He tried hard for the rest of the week to catch one of those ducks but never succeeded even when he got creative with the net and cheerios.
Brooklyn is a bit of a 'flirt' with the boys.....um, men. Matt and Sheri came to visit Rob and Marnie and Brooklyn sat between Dave and Matt flirting. She was hilarious and when they suggested that she go for a swim she was pretty much ready to let them toss her into the lake!
We not only had some wind but we had some rain too. It didn't last too long. Rob had taken some salmon along and we had some yummy steak so we cooked a delicious meal together. The kids were hungry and here they are waiting for some food.
When the wind died down one evening the lights from Osoyoos across the lake looked like a bar code. It took me a bit but I finally found the setting on my camera to capture this.
Marnie and I took the 4 older kids to the Nk'Mip Cultural Centre for a little Rattlesnake tour. It was interesting and we learned about some of the snakes that are native to this desert region.
The first part of our tour was a talk from a First Nations Band member. He talked about their dances and music. Jake was selected from the crowd to participate in some sort of a chant. I was impressed with the fact that he never broke from the beat.
We saw 4 different kinds of desert snakes. Some poisonous and some not. This one is the Rattlesnake that we saw signs all over the camp to watch out for. We never did see one in the wild, of which I was very glad. This was close enough for me.
The kids really got into the whole snake thing and when all the other people left we asked the snake lady if the kids could have a snake around their neck. I can't believe they were all brave enough to do this.........I didn't even want touch them!
After the snake demonstration we went on a self guided tour into the desert terrain.

Jake was inspired by the interesting flat rocks to build himself some Inukshuks.
Marnie had some airplanes that would soar when pulled on an elastic. The kids had lots of fun shooting these all about!

On our last evening at camp we drove into Osoyoos to get some ice-cream. There were so many choices it was hard to pick!
Brooklyn is Dave's little lady.......

Good-bye Osoyoos.......'til next year?
